We warmly congratulate Moritz Gross and the team on the publication of their important study in Gastrointestinal Radiology, which presents an innovative, fully automated machine learning framework to predict survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
By combining routine clinical data with radiomics features from baseline MRI, the model significantly outperformed conventional staging systems. Developed on a cohort of 555 treatment-naïve HCC patients and validated independently, it achieved high predictive performance (C-index: 0.85 development, 0.82 validation) – all in just over one minute per case.
This work not only demonstrates the power of AI for precision medicine in oncology, but also paves the way for risk-adapted follow-up strategies and more efficient tumor board workflows.
