Cardiac CT is ready for use in stable chest pain in clinical practice. This is demonstrated by the DISCHARGE study in a Europe-wide project with 31 partner institutions in 18 countries coordinated by the Department of Radiology at Charité (www.dischargetrial.eu).

The first evaluation of the DISCHARGE study appeared as a lead article in the New England Journal of Medicine in the 4/28/2022 issue. The paper shows that CT is as good as coronary angiography in terms of cardiovascular events in patients with stable chest pain, while reducing the proportion of relevant procedural complications by a factor of 4.
